Summary

The transition to operation and technical facilities management (FM) delivery at a government-owned Data Centre in Hobart, Tasmania, represents a milestone as Tasmania’s first Tier 3 data centre. This site supports a mix of retail and government services with a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of less than 1.3 and operates with 4MW capacity, featuring N+1 redundancy for reliability.

The project faced challenges in providing complex and cost-effective service delivery due to a limited local resource pool. To address this, a customised maintenance regime was developed, employing a hybrid model that combined local and mainland resources to optimise costs while managing risk effectively. This tailored approach ensures operational efficiency and risk control within a constrained resource environment.
